Feedback on the NYSAA 07-08

In order to obtain feedback from teachers regarding NYSAA administration
the Department is releasing an online survey. It will be available for
teachers to complete from February 8th, 2008 through May 31st, 2008.
Please forward the link below and encourage your teachers to take the
survey as soon as possible as the administration of NYSAA for 2007-08 is
just ending and feedback may be more readily available from them. The
link will also be posted on the tools and tips page on the NYSED
website.
The direct link to the LSET survey is:

Thank you all for your continued support of NYSAA.

Name/Initials on the DCS and OVF

Hi,
Can you help me with this question? I'm pretty sure you've answered it
before, but I cannot find it in my received email file.
Thanks..........Elaine

Question: On the DCS, the name/initials of the person collecting the
data must appear in the staff key. What if both the LSET's and the
aide's name/initials appear on the DCS and then one of them also signs
the OVF? Is the OVF valid?

Hi Elaine -

Thanks for sending this question. It seems folks are still struggling
with trying to get this in hand.

The staff key on the Data Collection Sheet must include the name and
initials of each person who documented data on the sheet. The person
who took data for a particular date must also initial the data for that
date (the bottom of the column).

We know a DCS requires supporting evidence. If an Observer Verification
Form is submitted with a Data Collection Sheet the observer must sign
and date the form. Scorers will compare the observer name and the
initials of the person who took data for the corresponding date. The
person who took data on a given date cannot act as the observer - the
initials and signature must be different people. It is acceptable for
the person who signs the OVF to take data on a different date.

Hope that clarifies for your purposes. Take care,
Alicia

Assistive Tech on the IEP & NYSAA

Hi,

If a student has an assistive technology device on the IEP but the
device was not used during the assessment, should it still be listed on
the bottom of the page?

Ruth

Hi Ruth, Thank you for your question,

It is recommended that only the assistive devices used to complete the
datafolio or that may appear in evidence be included on the bottom of
the student page. However, if they are included it is not an issue. This
information is not considered in scoring a datafolio.

Parent Survey - Pages 1,2, & 3

Hi,

Many of our students are only doing ELA and Math, so the teachers have
left out page 2 from the survey and only inserted pages 1 & 3. On the
checklist it says that all 3 pages should be in the binder. Do they
have to include it even though the area on page 2 do not apply to that
particular student?

Ruth

Hi Ruth,

There would be no negative impact on the datafolio scoring if the
Science/Social Studies page was not included.

While the PFG survey is an important part of the assessment process it
is not considered as part of a student's score.

Thanks for your question, take care,

Table of Contents

Hello Everyone!

It appears our teachers are finishing their datafolios because we've had
two calls today about filling in the sample Table of Contents. :o)
Just let them know try not over think this step. The Table of Contents
is used to help organize the datafolio, can serve as a double check and
show them how to place the order of the data summary sheet, verifying
evidence and if the VE is a data collection sheet the supporting
evidence. Basically teachers should number the pages in the datafolio
and fill in the sample table of contents as appropriate. The table of
contents is not considered in scoring. Teachers can use the sample in
the administration manual or make one of their own. Hope this helps with
your last reviews!

Take care,
Alicia
